Match Reports

Peterborough Sports 5 V 4 Eye Sports & Social

Another close encounter with Eye. After being 4-1 down at one point we are fast becoming known as the 'comeback kings'. Matt Kurlapski (or however you spell it) was the super sub coming on and getting PSL back in the game and then going on to winning it.

Peterborough Sports 4 V 3 Werrington

This was the perfect game to see how far we have progressed since all the great drama after xmas with the ressies nearly folding and players coming and going, as our first match after xmas we lost deservedly to Werrington 2 - 1.

We started poorly and were 2 - 0 down after 10 minutes with some well taken goals by the Werrington lads. It was looking a bit poo to say the least.

Thankfully one of our old timers, Nick, had decided to return and started to make a difference up the top end winning a lot of flick ons, which we started to take advantage of and played some good football, getting ourselves back in the game as a long throw from Anthony found Nicks big-head and finally my left boot and the back of the net (yes i did say my left boot and the back of the net in the same sentence, cant believe it myself).

We grew in confidence putting more & more pressure on and were rewarded with a penalty that Ant dispatched with ease 2-2. All the hard work was then quickly undone as we fell asleep at the back and Werrington went 3-2 up with another good finish.

Different tactics from the boss at half-time payed off in the second half as Anthony dropped to centre-back, helping to firm up the defence and Kev pushed out to right wing with me moving into the centre. I may be a little biased but most of the second half was spent in Werringtons half of the field.

Kev was supplying some quality balls in to the box and we were knocking the ball about well, but it was a cracking top corner header by aWerrington defender that stood out and thankfully he had put it in his own net 3-3.

We knew we could go on and win it from here, Werrington did have a few good chances themselves to win the game on the break, but Branchy made a superb triple stop to keep them at bay. Finally at the end another flick on won by Nick dropped to me and to be honest it wudda been harder for me to miss than score from about 5yards out...though i have missed from that range before...several times actually. Anyway it went in and we danced the merry dance.

A good win and good all round performance coming from behind again.

Peterborough Sports 3 V 3 Pinchbeck

Sports started brightly and dominated for the first 30minutes. Unfortunately we just did not seem confident enough in the final third to put our chances away.

Pinchbeck were given a free -kick late in the first half which was taken superbly, with a little luck, coming off the post to hit Branchy's legs and trickle in.

0 - 1 half time.

Things did not start off as planned in the second half after a pass from Bragg to centre back Olly bobbled over his leg straight in to the path of a Pinchbeck striker, who finished with ease. Shortly after this came the wierdest penalty decision I have witnessed, a shame really as the ref was having quite a good game. One of our defenders im not sure who (going a bit senile) tried to clearfrom in the box and the ball hit Sid, possibly on the area of his arm and the ref blew for a penalty...now the point is this, it hit Sid from point blank range his arm was by his side and it was our own player who kicked the initail ball...still one person thought it was a penalty and that person was the ref...crap penalty as well, but 3-0.

The good thing is we kept going and at times played some good footy, eventually we were rewarded when Ant, who can actually take corners whipped a ball in for Sid to head home well. We were back in the game and a sleepy Pinchbeck defence let in Davey to whip in a great cross for Eddie to scoop into the top corner. Finally with minutes to go a long throw saw Eddie pounce on the ball from close range to head home (have to state making up from a 4-yard miss in the first half where the ball sat up for Eddie to smash home and he kicked thin air).

A good, deserved result, though we still have a lot of improving to do, especially in our work rate up and down the field.

Thankyou, please.
